Duties
Leads a group of wage grade employees performing Material Expediting and Material Handling work, ensuring that all employees are kept busy, monitor progress of work, and make adjustments to complete workload in a timely manner.
Responds to supervisor's request for information regarding work operations within time allotted by supervisor.
Appropriately distributes workload and tasks among employees.
Demonstrates leadership in problem-solving and exploring alternatives to improve work methods, processes, and procedures.
Shares these findings and recommendations with supervisors and managers in a timely manner.
Complies with safety requirements communicated verbally or written, in instructions, manuals, technical orders, operating procedures, and policies in the performance of assigned tasks.
Selects material from stock to fill requisitions and replenish bins, assembles material into kits, packages, lots and units, when required.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
I instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions related to the duties and responsibilities of the position; and adhere to all safety standards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Effort
The employee stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. The work requires bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times all at the same time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 60 pounds. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 60 pounds. The work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting materials handling equipment.
Working Conditions
The DPWE Leader is regularly exposed to possible injury associated with handling equipment. Due to the nature of the work, the employee is subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock and must wear protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, respirators, safety glasses and earplugs. Works both inside and outside in areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and may be poorly lighted. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain all appropriate state and government licenses.
