This vacancy is for a IT Specialist (CUSTSPT) position in the Computer Service Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other IT Specialist (CUSTSPT), 2210-7/9, FPL GS-12, positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Duties
Performs a wide range of IT related and Data Center activities including inventory, analysis, equipment installation, troubleshooting, technical support.
Participates with a senior IT Specialist in meetings with customers to determine their needs.
Uses methods and practices of troubleshooting IT systems sufficient to resolve basic problems and provide support in a manner that minimizes interruptions to the customers’ ability to carry out critical business activities.
Skills in applying customer support concepts and methods sufficient to serve as a technical analyst with responsibility for troubleshooting and resolving less complex customer problems.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: For the GS-7, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience for this position includes. Serving in technical roles related to supporting Information Technology (IT) and non/IT related programs, projects, and resources; Providing advice to various levels of management, effecting cross-functional collaboration, partnering with internal/external stakeholders through customer service, tasks, and service delivery; Maintaining business processes to identify potential improvements in the way IT is applied to key business functions; Coordinating the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, guidance and a variety IT and business processes; Providing support for IT property management and inventory tracking and accountability; and Supporting Data Center Services and utilizing task management systems.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-9, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience for this position includes. Serving in technical roles related to supporting Information Technology (IT) and non/IT related programs, projects, and resources; Providing advice to various levels of management, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and partnering with internal/external stakeholders through customer service, tasks, and service delivery; Applying business process engineering concepts to identify potential improvements in the way IT is applied to key business functions; Managing the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, guidance and a variety IT and business processes to improve overall organizational effectiveness and efficiency; Performing IT equipment installations and decommissions through IT property management and inventory tracking and accountability; and Effecting Data Center Services, enforcing audit and security services in compliance with federal laws, regulations, and policies and utilizing task and service management systems to support IT business services.
In addition to the above specialized experience, your resume must demonstrate one year of Information Technology (IT) related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:
