You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist (Tactical) in the Marine Forces Reserve Safety Department of MARFORRES NOLA.

Duties
You will investigate damaged material, personal injury accidents, and occupational illnesses to determine causes of unsafe or unhealthy conditions.
You will evaluate training techniques, lesson plans, and risk assessment to verify risk and safety responsibilities are define and administered.
You will certify work environments where local guidelines or standards require validation that specific and predetermined safeguards or practices are present prior to work beginning.
You will use knowledge of instructional and briefing techniques to instruct or evaluate trainee instructors.
You will write summary reports and briefs to inform operations of countermeasures and their effectiveness for future exercise plans.
You will demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic, exhibit time management skills, be detail oriented and perform work efficiently in a team-oriented environment.
You will develop and implement safety programs/measures to decrease impacts to operations, tasks, and facility hazards.
You will assist in development of site-specific safety plans/programs, Job Hazard Analysis and other administrative functions in support of project/office SH and E requirement.
You will use your knowledge of SH and E regulatory codes to include both federal and state, to be able to support SH and E training as part of organizational requirements.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
- This position may require immunizations for pre-deployment.
- Incumbent is deployable (world-wide) with military units in support of tactical, contingency, and field operations. The incumbent or designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises.
- This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization and may be screened out from military recall status.
- Incumbent must be able to operate High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled vehicle (HMMWV), wear protective masks, and operate Night vision goggles (NVG) or other night vision devices.
- Incumbent will be required to wear military uniforms in a field environment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing interpretation and guidance concerning the application of safety regulations, policies, procedures, and standards; 2) Assessing safety hazards in workplaces that fall within general industry and/or construction standards; 3) Developing and recommending accident/injury avoidance procedures to safeguard personnel; and 4) Developing and conducting training courses on safety and occupational health programs, standards, and topics.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology
OR
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology
OR
Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled

Combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of the required education plus percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
