The Selective Service System (SSS) is an independent, Executive-branch agency which prepares to conscript talent in the event of a national emergency. This position is in the Data Management Center (DMC), Digital Mail Operations. The incumbent applies technical knowledge of mail processing, handling of personally identifiable information (PII) and sensitive personal information (SPI) to create, open, sort and batch correspondence in support of the Registration program.
Duties
Applies technical knowledge of mail processing, handling of personally identifiable information and sensitive personal information.
Receives, opens, sorts and batches forms used to establish and maintain databases.
Sets up, operates, and adjusts a variety of commercial-size equipment used to assemble computer generated mail correspondence and ensures output quality.
Assists with warehouse inventory control, material handling, and office housekeeping on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
At the GS-0303-06 level, you must meet the following qualification:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experiences for this position includes providing assistance with variety of administrative processes in support of a team; scanning and logging documents; and using various systems to process mail.
At the GS-0303-07level, you must meet the following qualification:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience for this position include receiving, opening, sorting, and batching forms used to log within computer databases; responding to inquiries or resolving customer issues; utilizing commercial-size equipment used to assemble computer generated mail correspondence; and operating and adjusting a high-speed inserting machine.

A written test is not required.
TIME-IN-GRADE: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this series/grade level.
