This position is located in the Office of the Register of Wills/Probate Division of the District of Columbia Superior Court.  The Assistant Deputy Register of Wills will report to the Legal Branch Manager.  The Assistant Deputy Register of Wills provides information, as needed, to the Probate Division Judges, attorneys and the public on procedures in administering decedent’s estates (large and small), guardianships, conservatorships, trusts and other fiduciary matters.

  • Background and security investigation are required.
  • A probationary period of one (1) year must be successfully completed.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited university or college with a law degree plus a member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar.At least three (3) years of experience as an attorney in private practice or the government which includes at least two (2) years of probate law experience. Experience within a courtroom, i.e. representing an agency at hearings is required.   Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills needed to successfully interact with the public, the judiciary, and other court personnel.The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required.  If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
