About the Position: This position provides technical support to facilitate forest management and protection activities on approximately 108,000 acres of managed forest land at Fort Liberty installation.

Duties

Lead the work of a group of forestry technicians. Prepare operating plans for technical projects such as timber cruising, vegetation management, reforestation, and firebreak maintenance. Perform forest fire prevention and control duties. Make field inventories of timber stands.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires the incumbent to operate a motor vehicle transporting one or more passenger on at least a weekly basis.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License to operate vehicles in excess of 26,000 pounds GVW or vehicles towing trailers in excess of 10,000 pounds which are used to transport forestry equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Pest Management Certification required for the application of pesticides used in forest management and protection.
  • This position requires the incumbent to meet National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) training and annual work capacity test requirement for any position held on the fireline.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical.

OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Forestry, Forest Biology, or Forest Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Fire ManagementForest ManagementLeadershipRangeland Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
