Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Operations Support, Laboratories and Scientific Services (LSS). This role is assigned to Headquarters LSS from one of the following locations: Savannah, GA; Guaynabo, PR; San Francisco, CA; Long Beach, CA; Houston, TX; Newark, NJ; Chicago, IL; Ashburn, VA; Washington, DC.

Duties

This position starts at a salary of $122,198.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $158,860.00 (GS-14, Step 10). Salary: Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection. While serving as a Supervisory Mission Support Specialist, your duties may include: Planning, analyzing, and supervising a thorough, professional, and authoritative analysis of the full range of administrative programs for the assigned support area. Providing technical advice and leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs in key support of LSS processes. Monitoring and evaluating the delivery of mission support services to key field laboratory managers and employees, and other customers. Engaging and collaborating with executive level management, senior managers, and all levels of the organization to ensure support to CBP's mission. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Supervising, evaluating and performing technical analysis on all aspects of new or established key programs including program goals and objectives, effectiveness, work operations, progress, and resource utilization; Leading and overseeing implementation of strategic change management and process improvement initiatives; Advising on the direction of budget, financial management, logistics, procurement, and quality assurance programs for LSS; and Provides a full range of supervisory functions including making decisions on problems presented by the staff, communicating performance requirements, evaluating work performance, and recommending recognition of employees NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/21/2024. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
