About the Position: The Academic Records Management Specialist will serve under the Director of Academic Affairs at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). The mission of the DLIFLC is to educate, sustain, evaluate, and support foreign language specialists under the guidelines of the Defense Foreign Language Program, which provides the Department of Defense and other Federal agencies with linguists fully capable of supporting United States national interest worldwide.

Duties

Create and modify interfaces between front-end data input and the student database. Assess data storage needs to create required amounts of tables in database system. Create database applications with constraints to limit type or information to be entered. Alter database tables to add, modify, rename, and drop columns, indexes, and constraints. Manage and create recurring and adhoc reports for document production. Provide technical input on information systems training requirements. Evaluate advances in technology for application to organizational requirements. Monitor information technology systems to assess effectiveness. Analyze data to identify errors and trends. Develop work methods for implementation. Monitor plans of action making adjustments to prevent emergent problems. Applies knowledge of higher level programming languages (dBase, Paradox, Lotus, SQL) and data structures. Applies data processing and relational database principles and structure in a distributed environment.

OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. FOR GS-11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes writing database queries in Structured Query Language (SQL); conducting work method studies on administrative processes and operations; performing database quality control analysis; and resolving front-end data input conflicts and issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. (if related) in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is sedentary; incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there is some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as papers and books.
