About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant (Military/OA) for the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion (HHBN), US Army North (ARNORTH) Headquarters, responsible for the military awards program and serving as the finance liaison between the HHBN and the Installation Finance and Accounting Office.
Duties
Serves as the awards program subject matter expert providing technical support and assistance in all phases of the awards program in accordance with regulations and other policies and guidance.
Disseminates associated command regulations, policies and procedures to HHBN leaders and provides guidance and assistance throughout the processing of an award.
Compiles and evaluates appropriate statistical data to determine need to change program/processes.
Maintains, monitors, and manages the military awards system database.
Receives and answers inquiries with respect to military personnel finance actions, administration of the system, and to give and receive general information.
Develops information regarding cause of errors, trends and similar statistical information.
Prepares and processes Unit Transmittal Letters (UTL) to the local DMPO at MPD Fort Sam Houston and occasionally to other locations as needed for regular, USAR, and ARNG actions.
Performs office management and clerical tasks associated with the control and processing of correspondence, suspense, actions, reports, distribution, and internal office management controls for functional staff offices.
Requirements
- This is a TERM Position NTE 3 Years.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- A probationary period maybe required.
- A Secret Security Clearance is required for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Specialized Experience For GS-06 Position: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the processing and compliance of military awards; Utilizing an automation system to enter data and prepare reports for leadership review; Applying human resources regulations, standards, and policies for reports and processing of actions for military personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Specialized Experience For GS-07 Position: Once year specialized experience which includes review finance system output and error reports to determine type of error and possible causes; create and maintain statistical data for the tracking of annual and quarterly awards; use military databases to to monitor and resolve variety of electronic award issues involving technical and procedural processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). For GS-07, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
