The position serves as an Attorney-Adviser in the U.S. Department of Justice, Justice Management Division (JMD), Human Resources. JMD provides senior management officials with advice relating to basic Department policy for budget and financial management, human resources management and training, procurement, ethics, equal employment opportunity, information processing, events, telecommunications, security, and all matters pertaining to organization, management, and administration.

As a Attorney Adviser GS-0905-15, your typical work assignments may include the following: Advises the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Human Resources and Administration/Chief Human Capital Officer, Director and Deputy Director, Human Resources and other leadership within Justice Management Division on the interpretation of personnel laws, regulations, and DOJ policies. Provides legal guidance and support on all human resources-related matters, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, termination, harassment, compensation, employee benefits and wellness programs. Drafts and reviews policy statements, proposed legislation, severance agreements, disciplinary documents, and other employee personnel-related documents. Develops and implements policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks and promote best practices in personnel and employment law.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Must complete a Background Investigation to include drug testing
  • Selective Service Registration is required, as applicable
  • May require completion of one year probationary period
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to hold a security clearance at the Secret security level.
  • This position requires the incumbent to submit a Confidential Disclosure Report (OGE-450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of a bar in good standing (any jurisdiction), and have at least 4 years of post-J.D. legal experience. Applicants must also have:1) excellent academic credentials; 2) strong oral and written communication and advocacy skills;3) superior legal research and analytical skills; and 4) a demonstrated ability to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Preferred Qualifications Preferred applicants will also possess prior experience in employment/personnel law.
