This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C. (AFRH-W), within Healthcare Services. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for performing various Resident care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the non-skilled nursing care, personal needs and comfort of Residents.
Duties
As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will:
Provide comfort care and hygiene to Residents to include bathing, hair and nail care, oral hygiene, skin care and back rubs.
Assist Residents in walking, moving, and changing position by supporting and turning them.
Maintain flow sheets and Resident records, documenting Resident care as per expected standards.
Take accurate vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature) and other required measurements (i.e. height, weight)- Perform routine procedures in accordance with established standard operating procedures for CNA education.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Specialized experience for this position includes: nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide performing duties such as:
Providing personal nursing care; OR
Performing support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; OR
Caring for patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement; OR
Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.
OR
A 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelors degree with courses related to the occupation, if required;
OR
A combination of experience and education. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
AND
Licensure: Must have an active and current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in a state or territory of the U.S.
SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
