As a Nursing Assistant, you will be responsible for performing various Resident care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the non-skilled nursing care, personal needs and comfort of Residents.
Duties
As a Nursing Assistant, you will:
Answer call lights promptly to determine Resident's needs.
Take accurate vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature) and other required measurements (i.e. height, weight).
Obtain laboratory specimens, i.e., routine urine specimens; label specimens with Resident identification per AFRH policy and direction of Charge Nurse, and transport specimens to laboratory for testing including blood, urine, stool, sputum and nasogastric tube specimens; obtains results (paper copy) from the laboratory as directed by Charge Nurse to be placed in chart.
Participate in the admission process by collecting Resident information, orienting the Resident to the unit, checking him/her for items that are unsafe, and assist the nurse with care plan development.
Maintain a safe Resident environment, recognize hazards, and take corrective action
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide performing duties such as:
Providing personal nursing care; OR
Performing support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; OR
Caring for patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.; OR
Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.
OR You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: A 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.
Certification: You must have an active and current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in a state or territory of the U.S.
Physical Requirements: The work involves long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring standing, bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting and repositioning Residents. Must use proper body mechanics when lifting objects and use lift equipment for Residents. The work may require considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as lifting objects greater the 50 pounds or defending oneself against physical attack.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-05, you must have been at the GS-04 level for 52 weeks
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
