About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Protocol Specialist at the Chief of Staff - Joint Engagement Visitors Bureau in Miami, FL.

Duties

Serve as Protocol Specialist with specific responsibilities for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing functions of the Protocol office for the Command’s official Distinguished Visitors' program. Create detailed itineraries for distinguished visitors based upon time and place of arrival, size and significance of the group, background and interests, and length of stay. Conduct orientation for the visitors in a schedule designed to fit the needs of the visitor and the command. Coordinate a variety of special events to include trainings, promotions and retirement ceremonies, receptions, luncheons, dinners, etc. Schedule and confirm visitors' transportation and billeting reservations. Prepare funding documentation regarding the protocol program in accordance with regulations. Plan and direct the conduct of visits to USSOUTHCOM by General officers, foreign delegations at the general officer level, and distinguished civilians of equivalent rank or higher, most of which are at the four-star level. Develop and execute detailed itineraries based upon time and place of arrival, size and significance of the group, background and interests, and length of stay. Integrate the efforts of staff offices to perform an orientation for the visitors in a schedule designed to fit the needs of the visitors and the command. Determine proper protocol in connection with ceremonies, receptions, official luncheons, and dinners. Plan appropriate toasts and their proper sequence and select menus according to backgrounds of distinguished visitors. Ensure all support personnel, i.e., drivers, escorts, photographers, details, etc. are thoroughly briefed and oriented on their respective responsibilities for the visit. Provide guidance to leadership pertaining to protocol and customs of the military as well as customs and courtesies of other countries.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Professional appearance, pose, and flexibility (work overtime, as well as some holidays and weekends) are desired.
  • Requires periodic temporary duty with overnight travel.
  • Requires interface with senior field grade officers/civilian equivalents.
  • Requires physical activity such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
  • Requires physical activity such as recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities.
  • During the execution of key protocol functions, prolonged periods of physical effort will be required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above). For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
