This position is located in Castillo De San Marcos National Monument, in the Interpretation Division. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 08/26/2024 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

Duties

As a Recreation Fee Technician, you will perform the following duties: Troubleshoots issues with fee program related technologies and equipment (e.g., hardware, software, peripheral devices, computers, registers, mobile phones, and reservation systems). Transports recreation fee revenue and/or donations collected from one or more fee collection locations. Ensures proper security, internal controls, and accountability of funds during transport. Assists in the orientation, mentoring, and training of new employees, volunteers, and/or interns. Provides information to customers concerning the National Park Service and surrounding areas. Collects Park fees at park entrances, campgrounds, fee cannisters, and donation boxes. Completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold, and all machine transactions. Inventories and restocks fee program supplies. Completes accountability records for fee collection transactions.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/26/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; or using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION of EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To compute this percentage, first divide the total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide the number of completed semester hours of education above high school (that are in excess of 60 semester hours) by 60. Add the two percentages together; the total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: Only education above high school in excess of more than two-years may be used to qualify for this position. You must include a copy of your transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands:
This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties.

Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. The work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. The duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
