Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for performing essential IT tasks associated with the day-to-day, district-wide operations of the IT systems for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky. Typical work assignments will include but are not limited to:
Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving reported customer incidents and training in response to customer requirements.
Maintaining network architecture and infrastructure. Configuring and maintaining servers, hubs, routers, switches and related hardware.
Monitoring network capacity and performance. Performing network diagnostics and resolving network problems. Analyzing network traffic patterns and installing network software fixes, upgrades, and enhancements.
Planning and scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems and applications software, working closely with customers to ensure seamless installation and minimize installation problems.
Resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems. Optimizing systems performance and identifying components to improve overall systems performance.
Providing database administration and support for numerous applications.
Managing accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment.
Maintaining and controlling district's computer equipment inventory.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

Qualifications
To be qualified at the GS-12, you must possess:
Basic Requirement: Information Technology (IT)-related experience, obtained through paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, demonstrating each of the following competences:
Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work until provides, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and respond appropriately.
Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience: At least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service defined as providing technical and analytical assistance involving one or more of the following IT specialty areas which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO): IT Systems/Network Administration; Systems Security; Intranet-Internet; Customer Support; or Policy and Planning. Examples of specialized experience include providing information technology customer support services to include the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems and networked systems; providing user training on a variety of routine applications; providing quality assurance and analysis of information security systems to ensure compliance with information security policies and regulations; managing the network architecture and infrastructure; and installing and maintaining database systems.
