The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced technical services in applications programming; installation and maintenance of hardware; and installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software.
Duties
Responsible for limited specialized projects and assignments involving development, test, implementation, and modification of computer programs and operating procedures.
Installs and maintains hardware.
Installs, upgrades, and maintains software.
Schedules, maintains, and provides advice on formulation of job requests and computer programs for which the guidelines may provide for judgmental deviations.
Provides guidance and assistance to customers.

- This is a TERM Position Not to Exceed: 36 months
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Must be able to obtain Security Plus certification within six months of employment as a condition of employment.
- Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
- Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
- A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Applying the fundamentals of programming logic, system and higher level languages used in limited programing, and operating system input/output methods and software to program assigned modules; utilizing programming techniques to recognize program modification requirements that can be designed and implemented without impacting total system logic or processing effectiveness; utilizing record requirements to write summaries of work efforts to provide finished input to program records for the guidance of others; and the utilization of subject matter information requirements to coordinate with other users about subject matter content and similar information used in module and modification programming.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing standards, policies, and techniques.
Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures; and computer hardware and/or software systems and their interfaces.
Knowledge of higher-level programming languages and the terminology, codes, abbreviations, and graphics for preparing system documentation or programs.
Knowledge of local rules and procedures controlling job priorities and controls on access to data and program files.
Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer software and/or hardware problems and develop economical solutions; and train users.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
