The primary purpose of this position is to support the organization's Information Technology Section in managing organization information systems to include acquisition, systems administration, user support, training, and system installations for the United States Air Force Weapons School.
Duties
Administers information systems. Monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and that operational standards are met.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Serves as project officer for recommending selection of and installing new computer systems and software, and maintaining all computer systems.
Provides training and assistance to customers.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Overtime may be required.
- The employee must be able to obtain and maintain occupational technical certifications as directed by the supervisor.
- Employee must obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance as a condition of employment.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
- Security+ Certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent must schedule and complete the test certification requirements for Security+ Certification within two (2) months after completing the Security+ Certification training.
- Failure to receive Security+ Certification in a timely manner may result in removal from this position.
Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Utilizing computer equipment, internal computer processes, application and utility programs, and magnetic media; Applying a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify system failures, take corrective actions to resume normal operations, and implement procedures to allow for partial use until problems are resolved; and Diagnosing and resolving problems with telecommunications, Local Area Network, and Wide Area Network systems to carry out assignments which may not be typical in nature and require adaptation of standard procedures and established practices to ensure a positive outcome.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher level programming languages and other job control languages.
Knowledge of data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems.
Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the function and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of the organization and effectively apply agency safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
