National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Duties

Provides subject matter expertise regarding Network Server (Cloud/Premise) design, management, operations, maintenance and architectural improvements for NDU Enterprise Information Systems and infrastructure. Creates, maintains, and executes comprehensive configuration and maintenance plan, establishes and executes network backup and recovery plan, develops and implements local migration procedures. Evaluates and provides written reports on the functionality and optimization of enterprise systems, security and networks, utilizing metrics and performance baselines. Plans, assists, develops, and implements security policies and procedures to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability is maintained for enterprise systems and/or networks within NDU. Assist NETOPS Chief and leadership in planning project goals and prioritizing support to meet the operational mission. Ensures that all applicable policies and procedures are followed and establishes a schedule and implementation plan for network lifecycle upgrades.

Problem Solving- identifying alternatives to address complex information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from a variety of sources that provide a number of potential solutions. Network Server - Provides hands-on subject matter expertise regarding Network Server (Cloud & Premise) design, management, operations, maintenance and architectural improvements for NDU Enterprise Information Systems and infrastructure and ensures that all applicable policies and procedures are followed. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade, GS-12, within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience: is defined as experience with network design, operations and architectural improvements as well as contract management AND IT-related experience demonstrating Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving as described in the vacancy announcement. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
