Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Facilities and Asset Management, Border Patrol and Air and Marine Program Management Office. Please see "additional information" for all locations.

Duties

Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP), Office of Facilities and Asset Management, will allow you to perform facilities maintenance work primarily involving, in the same job, two or more trade practices associated with heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing, grounds maintenance, and repair of facilities such as buildings, structures, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities, and carpentry trades. This position starts at an hourly rate of $23.25 (WG-10, Step 1) to $43.26 (WG-10, Step 5). Hourly Rate: The hourly rate listed reflects the lowest locality location and the highest locality location wage schedule. Refer to the Federal Wage (FWS) website for additional wage schedule and hourly rate information. Salary: Salary will be adjusted to the hourly rate applicable at the duty station for which you are selected. Typical work assignments may include: Performing facilities maintenance work primarily involving two or more trade practices such as: heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing, grounds maintenance, and repair of facilities such as buildings, structures, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities, and carpentry trades. Coordinating, monitoring, and performing installation and repair duties for the upkeep, operation, and utilization of the agency's facilities. Providing leadership with input and feedback for facility repair activities, including the necessary reports, specifications, and documentation. Performing all or substantially all of the following types of repairs: Electrical, Air Conditioning, Painting, Plumbing, and Carpentry.

Qualifications

Experience: To minimally qualify for the WG-10 grade level you must meet the Screen Out Element ((Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision). To meet the screen out element, you should have experience performing the following duties: Performing facilities maintenance, construction, and repair utilizing knowledge and application of two or more trades such as electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, pipefitting, air-conditioning and refrigeration; Ensuring continual, safe, and proper operation of all building systems to include, but not limited to the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities; Interpreting building blueprints, electrical schematics, drawings and specifications, and other technical guides; Working with test instruments, measuring devices, and hand and power tools; and Utilizing shop mathematics such as measuring fittings and assessing the planning and layout of piping systems to complete Facility Maintenance. In addition to the experience described above, you will also be evaluated on the basis of your overall level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas: Knowledge of how to install and operate a wide range of complete electrical systems. Skill in the use of hand tools and power tools. Knowledge sufficient to repair and troubleshoot large, difficult AC systems. Skill in the use of accepted plumbing trade methods and techniques. Knowledge and ability in performing carpentry work on difficult or heavy items. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 08/16/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
