Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Facilities and Asset Management, Border Patrol and Air and Marine Program Management Office. Duties

Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP), Office of Facilities and Asset Management, will allow you to perform facilities maintenance work primarily involving, in the same job, two or more of the trades which perform maintenance and repair of facilities such as buildings, structures, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities. This position starts at a salary of $25.02 (WG-10, Step 1) to $29.19 (WG-10, Step 5) with promotion potential to $29.19 (WG-10 Step 05). Hourly Rate: The hourly rate listed reflects the lowest locality wage schedule. Refer to the Federal Wage (FWS) website for additional wage schedule and hourly rate information. Salary: Salary will be adjusted to the hourly rate applicable at the duty station for which you are selected. Typical work assignments may include: Performing building maintenance, construction, and repair tasks that require knowledge and application of a variety of trade practices associated with such occupations as electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, pipefitting, air-conditioning and refrigeration. Reading building plans, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and responsible for planning and laying out the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial or similarly complex systems, circuits, controls, and equipment. Completing installations, modifications, and repairs, and loading and testing systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work. Planning and laying out the needed routing, placement, pitch, incline, and elevation of systems and equipment, figuring pressures in the systems and seeing that the piping, valves, fittings, and equipment are proper for the work, completing installations, modifications, and repairs with little or no check during their progress or upon completion. Testing systems and equipment after completing work for proper circulation, flow, pressures, and leak-free joints.

Experience: To minimally qualify for the WG-10 grade level you must meet the Screen Out Element (Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision). To meet the screen out element, you should haveexperience performing the following duties: Performing building maintenance, construction, and repair utilizing knowledge and application of trades such as electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, pipefitting, air-conditioning and refrigeration. Interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, drawings and specifications, and other technical guides. Working with test instruments, measuring devices, and hand and power tools. Utilizing shop mathematics to complete tasks. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. In addition to the experience described above, you will also be evaluated on the basis of your overall level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas: Ability to interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, drawings and specifications, and other technical guides of varying degrees of complexity Knowledge of work practices, methods, processes, and skills in the crafts of electricity, carpentry, plumbing, iron work, welding, painting, concrete work, and appliance repair Skill in the use of test instruments, measuring devices, and hand and power tools Knowledge of shop mathematics (arithmetic), building operational requirements and the impact of space moves and alterations when specialized needs are involved. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 08/11/2023. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
