This position is located in the Division of Nursing at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. The position serves as the wellness officer to systematically improve well-being among providers and other staff and to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area, assuming responsibility for the diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients and being a resource for employee wellness.
This position reports to Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) & Assistant Chief Nurse Executive (ACNE).

Creates a culture of wellness to improve organizational health and well-being at the system-level and addresses the unique needs of health care professionals. Ensures employee well-being is considered as part of all key organizational decisions. Interacts closely with executive leadership.
Evaluates the current state of wellness culture, benchmarks and monitors intervention impacts ( via assessments for well-being, burnout, professional fulfillment, efficiency of practice, health of organizational culture). Develops strategic vision, implements and evaluates initiatives to improve health and well-being outcomes among healthcare professionals/hospital staff. Monitors and reports outcomes, including measures of engagement, professional fulfillment, health and well-being, return on investment, value on investment, and tracking how they change with the introduction of interventions.
Develops a portfolio of resources individual health care professionals can use to cultivate personal wellbeing Develops a system-wide safety net for individual healthcare professionals and hospital staff in distress.
Performs the full range of patient care duties, initiates and provides appropriate immediate/emergency measures. Completes all administrative functions and responsibilities. Evaluates nursing responses in emergencies and recommend corrective actions. Makes notes of observations to be incorporated into clinical records.
Develops training to help work-unit leaders effectively cultivate well-being in their departments
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS 11: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree or master's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Experience in initiating and sustaining a culture of well-being via a variety of activities that address health care professionals needs and improving organizational culture. Experience in overseeing system level efforts to improve the culture of wellness by evaluating system level efforts, monitoring outcomes and implementing initiatives to improve health and well-being outcomes.
Experience in providing skilled and comprehensive nursing care to patients. Closely observes patients for serious clinical conditions and provides appropriate immediate/emergency measures. Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate use of physicians' standing orders.
Experience in developing training to help work-unit leaders effectively cultivate well-being in their departments. Identifies struggling work units and helps provide support, recommendations, and tactics for these units to improve staff well-being.
