Duties

Serves as the Assistant Fire Chief with supervisory and management oversight responsibilities to develop, plan, update, coordinate, conduct and monitor organizational/installation technical services programs- - and training concerning fire suppression, specialized rescue, hazardous material, Emergency Medical and Disaster Preparedness Services and Fire Prevention and Public Education Programs. Supervises subordinate employees and provides guidance in the development, implementation and delivery of technical services training, prevention, and public education programs for installation personnel. Ensures building and facility pre-plans, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, water distribution systems (fire hydrants), life safety features and extinguishers are up-to-date and properly maintained. Reviews building plans, scope(s) of work, and design of fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems to ensure compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria, DOD/DLA regulations- -as well as nationally recognized standards such as those promulgated by organizations like the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supervisory Fire Protection Specialist, your resume must support: A. One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be at the GS-10 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Examples of creditable specialized experience include: Developing and managing a Fire and Emergency Services training program. Experience in performing fire prevention and life safety inspections. Experience determining proper emergency response/equipment needs in an emergency situation. Experience reviewing plans and applying proper codes according to regulatory requirements. AND B. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Department of Defense (DoD) 6055.06-M, "Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program" identifies the level of performance required for all DoD Fire and Emergency Services personnel. The certifications listed below are the minimum mandatory certification requirements for this position. DoD Incumbents shall possess DoD Certifications, or equivalent accredited certifications from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Professional Qualifications System (Pro-Board): Accredited Certification: Fire Officer III Fire Instructor III Fire Inspector III HAZMAT Incident Command Applicants MUST submit copies of required certificates. Failure to submit required documents will result in lost consideration. Licenses: Valid State Driver's License Other training requirements that must be obtained within one year of employment and maintained: Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC) and Emergency Medical Technician - Basic. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
