Duties
Serves as the Assistant Fire Chief in charge of Fire and Emergency Services Emergency Operations.
Participates in the planning and administration of comprehensive fire suppression, hazardous materials, specialized rescue, and emergency medical programs at installation of assignment.
Directs the work of firefighting crews providing fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material, and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) and emergency medical response calls.
Directs operational activities of the fire station including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Provides program management and support for all Fire and Emergency Services operations programs.
Serves as the acting Fire Chief during scheduled and unscheduled absences assuming full organizational control.
Represents Fire Chief at senior leadership events with on and off center agencies.

- Tour of Duty: 120 hours per pay period (Position is subject to shift rotation and assignment to abnormal tours of duty.)

- Certifications/Licenses: Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, Emergency Medical Technician - Basic, Valid State Drivers License.

- Individual must complete a pre-employment and an annual medical exam IAW DoD 6055.05-M to determine the reasonable likelihood of a firefighter’s ability to execute the arduous and rigorous essential functions of fire suppression and rescue.
- Mission Essential: The incumbent may be required to report to work in the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or crisis.
- Additional Certifications required within one year of employment: Emergency Vehicle Operator
Qualifications
To qualify for a Supervisory Firefighter, your resume must support:
A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must be at the GS-10 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Examples of creditable specialized experience include:
Supervising/managing fire and emergency personnel.
Developing and enforcing standard operating procedures and policies related to fire and emergency services.
Responding and assuming overall responsibility as Incident Commander during all types of emergencies.
Experience detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards.
Demonstrate experience in developing and tracking spreadsheets to include budgets, equipment, and supplies for the department.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Department of Defense (DoD) 6055.06-M, "Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program" identifies the level of performance required for all DoD Fire and Emergency Services personnel. The certifications listed below are the minimum mandatory certification requirements for this position. DoD Incumbents shall possess DoD Certifications, or equivalent accredited certifications from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Professional Qualifications System (Pro-Board):Accredited Certification:
Fire Officer III

Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
Other training requirements that must be obtained within one year of employment and maintained:
Emergency Vehicle Operator, (EVOC)

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This position is being filled as Temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year. Current permanent DLA employees eligible as a Promotion, this position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion NTE one year and may be extended up to a total of five years or converted to a permanent promotion without further competition. Current permanent DLA employees eligible as a Reassignment/Change-to-Lower Grade, this position will be filled as a Reassignment/Change-to-Lower Grade with the intent to be limited to the time period specified in the announcement and may be reassigned at management's discretion or made permanent at any time. Upon termination/expiration of the temporary assignment, placement will be either to the gaining or previous organization in accordance with DLA policy (DLAI 1442.04) regarding placement rights after a time-limited assignment. For all others, if selected, this would be a Temporary/Time-Limited Appointment NTE one year, and extended in increments of up to one year, NTE a total of three years. The selected applicant will be required to sign a written agreement acknowledging the conditions of this temporary assignment/appointment and that they may be released from this position upon management discretion.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
