About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Handle fabrics and/or articles of clothing. Operate specialized machines such as industrial single needle sewing, button machine, over edge machine, heat and seal machine and fabric cutter machine. Perform garment alterations on hospital garments. Understand alteration tickets, chalk marks, and/or pattern adjustments to alter clothing. Perform non-sewing functions such as marking and/or trimming. Use shears for cutting, trimming and/or clipping fabrics.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Requires lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds. Requires pushing or pulling carts. Works in area that is adequately lighted, ventilated, heated, and cooled. Subject to cuts, bruises, punctures, scratches, burns and other minor injuries. Dust and lint from fabrics, fumes and odorous glue and preservatives. Exposed to contaminated linen materials. Uses protective devices such as safety glasses, gloves, for example. May occasionally work weekends.
