This position is located within the Environmental Management Service (EMS) Division of the Memphis VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN. The Environmental Services Technician Leader is responsible for leading and overseeing the duties of Housekeeping Aids in the performance of housekeeping related services in the various areas of the medical center.
Duties
Major Duties:
Obtain necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work.
Check work in progress and when finished ensuring the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
Relay instructions to team members received from supervisors and getting work started.
Observe quality and quantity of work and advising employees of conditions that do not meet performance standards.
Demonstrate proper work methods, procedures, use of supplies and equipment.
Ensure needed supplies, tools and equipment is available and ready for use.
Use hand and powered equipment to perform sweeping, scrubbing, refinishing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures.
Work along with other employees to set the pace.
Maintain a current knowledge of Environmental Management Service procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.
Ensure proper work distribution.
Coordinate projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure efficient and economical accomplishment of work.
Work Schedule: 7:30am-4pm, Monday-Friday

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
