Assigned to Environmental Management Service, responsible for supervision and responds to various demands in the workplace while maintaining a balanced workload between the work groups.
Duties
The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor exercises technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the Environmental Management Service goals and objectives.
Major Duties:
Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies.
Schedule work to include sanitation, waste management, and furniture moving
Inspect and document completed work for quality and unit requirements
Investigate work related problems.
Exercise corrective actions to resolve problems identified and report possible or actual work delays to upper management.
Assign work to employees.
Provide technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult tasks.
Determine the number and type of workers needed to accomplish specific tasks and projects.
Redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work (e.g. work resulting from utility failure, equipment failure, unscheduled inspection or change in project priority).
Develop and implement performance standards for assigned employees.
Develop and implement performance standards for assigned employees.
Advise and counsel employees on performance improvement and explain new work techniques.
Use equipment, facilities, materials and tools on a routine basis required to perform janitorial and custodial work including sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; and emptying waste cans.
Determine training needs of employees and provide training or request arrangements for training.
Ensure assigned employees have the proper tools and personal protective equipment to perform work assignments.
Track and report progress on work assignments.
Inform higher level supervisor(s) of the need to revise work schedules, request authority to adjust worker assignments to use overtime, equipment and materials to meet established schedules
Observe work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems, reassign personnel within groups supervised, and coordinate work among employees and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet schedules and deadlines
Plan and establish overall leave schedule for assigned employees (approve/disapprove leave requests)
Assure safe work practices and good housekeeping practices are observed.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
