This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Surgery Obstetrics / Gynecology with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market. Duties

Perform patient screening under the supervision of the RN and ongoing patient monitoring. Perform a wide range of treatment procedures that include venipuncture, phlebotomy, catheter insertion and respiratory therapy. Take immediate action to modify care based on observed patient reaction to treatments. Perform a wide range of diagnostic support duties that include taking vital signs, collecting specimens, calling and recording laboratory reports, and assisting the provider in a variety of inpatient and outpatient examinations. Take appropriate emergency action and contacts nurse, provider and/or resuscitation team in the event of unusual or adverse reactions. Knowledge of the functions, controls and operations of various specialized equipment. The incumbent provide care to a variety of services to include pediatric, gynecology, urology, medical, surgical and orthopedic.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Applicant must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse: Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listedbelow: Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Screening patients under the supervision of the RN; 2) Performing a wide range of treatment procedures that include venipuncture, phlebotomy, catheter insertion and respiratory therapy; 3) Collecting lab specimens and recording results; and 4) Operating various specialized medical equipment. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education
