This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Surgery Obstetrics / Gynecology with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market. Duties

Perform patient screening under the supervision of the RN and ongoing patient monitoring. Perform a wide range of treatment procedures that include venipuncture, phlebotomy, catheter insertion and respiratory therapy. Take immediate action to modify care based on observed patient reaction to treatments. Perform a wide range of diagnostic support duties that include taking vital signs, collecting specimens, calling and recording laboratory reports, and assisting the provider in a variety of inpatient and outpatient examinations. Take appropriate emergency action and contacts nurse, provider and/or resuscitation team in the event of unusual or adverse reactions. Knowledge of the functions, controls and operations of various specialized equipment. The incumbent provide care to a variety of services to include pediatric, gynecology, urology, medical, surgical and orthopedic.

• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
• Applicant must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse: Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below: Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Screening patients under the supervision of the RN; 2) Performing a wide range of treatment procedures that include venipuncture, phlebotomy, catheter insertion and respiratory therapy; 3) Collecting lab specimens and recording results; and 4) Operating various specialized medical equipment. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
