Duties
This position is located in the Associate Director for Operations, Office of Human Resources, National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for providing oversight and direction to staff and advising/assisting the Assistant Director of Human Resources as well as other key SI offices regarding strategic organizational structure planning and programming initiatives, realignments, position management, position classification, recruitment and staffing, employee and labor relations, Human Resources (HR) information systems and data, as well as other related HR special programs.

probationary period for supervisors.
Qualifications
Experience for GS-14: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: advising supervisors, managers and senior management regarding strategic organizational structure planning and programming initiatives, realignments, position management, position classification, recruitment and staffing, employee and labor relations, training, and staff development; monitoring HR program changes, policies, and regulations for impact on policy, procedure, and guidance; serving as the focal point for HR Systems; conducting research into new HR systems, testing and implementation.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
