Duties

CBP Office of Trade is the architect of the most robust customs system in the world and the second largest revenue source for the U.S. Government. We facilitate legitimate trade, enforce U.S. laws, and protect the American economy as well as consumer health and safety. Collaborating with industry and government partners, we create a fair, competitive, and safe trade environment, and we enforce U.S. trade law to protect national economic security. Our expertise in the trade community allows us to lead the development of streamlined and efficient processes that provide certainty for legitimate importers, while combatting transnational crime. This position starts at a salary of $99,200.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $153,354.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $153,354 (GS-13 Step 10). In this position you will provide strategic communications, administrative, and policy development support and assist with the facilitation of the execution of planning, reviewing, and managing communication products and program operations at Customs and Border Protection, Office of Trade. Major duties may include, but are not limited to: Providing, overseeing, and supporting in implementing, coordinating, and executing a variety of communication program related activities affecting the agency. Meeting with middle and upper-level managers within the program office to understand organizational needs and to develop strategic recommendations and plans, appropriate communication artifacts, process documents, and written materials that clarify policy guidance for internal processes and programs. Planning and developing strategic communications products, to include fact sheets, talking points, issue papers, scripts, articles, briefing memos, public affairs guidance, press releases, event notices, explanatory documents for program-specific internal policies and processes, management briefings, presentations, and conference material for supervisors and executive management for use with internal audiences as well as those outside of the program including agency, department, media, industry, and the general public.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing administrative oversight of program responsible for the execution of day-to-day administrative functions related to program's strategic communications and internal process development efforts. Ensuring that accurate and appropriately concise and timely information is available to executive management. Ensuring that the program processes and guidance are clearly communicated. Planning and developing strategic communications products, to include fact sheets, talking points, issue papers, scripts, articles, briefing memos, public affairs guidance, press releases, and event notices. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Reviewing internal policies/processes to ensure that they are current and making updates or recommendations to higher-level supervisor/manager. Explaining complex and/or technical subject matter and distills information into easily understood points. Overseeing the implementation of higher-level policies and guidance and making recommendations to improve processes or adapt guidance for specific situations. Providing and supporting in implementing, coordinating, and executing a variety of communication programs. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
