About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Advise cadets and their counseling support teams on academic probation program terms and conditions.
Provide program information to cadets and counseling support teams.
Prepares individual letters of Academic Board decisions to separated cadets.
Compile data at term end to prepare and distribute the list of cadets who are placed on academic probation.
Provide cadets the established information in the formulation of their academic programs.
Review all outgoing correspondence and reports to ensure correct content, proper format, correct grammatical content.
Resolves conflicts and publish consolidated schedules of activities.
Manage division budget that includes funds for travel, civilian awards and supplies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess the incumbents ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Providing clerical and/or administrative support to organizations and/or staff; 2) Utilizing automated software to draft documents; 3) assisting with coordination of organization budget to ensure availability of funds; AND 4) assisting with supervisory duties for an organization such as assigning and/or reviewing work, providing training, scheduling lectures, etc. This definition of specialized experience is equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
