This position is located in the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Operations,
Communications & Government Affairs. This position implements and manages aspects of the BJA communications program and coordinates with OJP's Office of Communications on public affairs, congressional and intergovernmental affairs and media-related activities related to BJA.
Duties
Coordinates with OJP's Office of Communications (OCOM) public affairs, congressional and intergovernmental affairs and media-related activities related to BJA.
Supports and guides all levels of internal communication initiatives, ensures that an internal communication system exists across all levels.
Implements and manages aspects of the BJA communications program, including development, production and dissemination of print and electronic media and related support contracts and cooperative agreements.
Prepares, coordinates, and publishes materials that communicate new, revised or updated information on important programs and policies. Presents information to ensure acceptance and understanding among intended audiences. Develops approaches that integrate various aspects of the mission in creating a unified publication and communications strategy. Tracks and oversees the editing and production of publishable materials issued for distribution in conjunction with major programs, exhibitions, and projects.
Reviews and evaluates existing communication plans for disseminating information about changes in program emphasis or content for a wide variety of subjects related to programs. Determines the most expeditious and appropriate avenues for disseminating information to the public and arranges for mass dissemination of information materials;
Works with other organization units to promote programs and publications targeting diverse audiences.
Participates in the management of an internal SharePoint site, providing timely and relevant information to staff.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:
Develops communications policies and guidance that support substantive mission-oriented program areas.
Implements internal communications strategies and workflows that increase staff knowledge and engagement of communications practices and opportunities.
Develops communications products for a variety of audiences and stakeholders; and/or
Manages projects with complex program issues that contained complicating elements requiring the adaptation of communication techniques and evaluation criteria for the measurement and improvement of communication program effectiveness and/or organizational productivity.
