About the Position: Fort Eisenhower is approximately 139 miles east of Atlanta, GA; 80 miles southwest of Columbia, SC; 156 miles west of Charleston, SC; 175 miles southwest of Charlotte, NC; and 127 miles northwest of Savannah, Georgia. Fort Eisenhower's location is in the Augusta metropolitan area.

Duties

Serve as a technical advisor for the installation, tenant activities, and Reserve Component Activities. Provide technical direction to the Hazardous Waste Handlers to ensure proper hazardous waste management and installation compliance. Conduct briefings and prepare material for presentation on environmental policies, environmental impacts, and environmental compliance. Brief the Compliance Branch Chief and Environmental Division Chief on monthly reports. Review and monitor installation activities, as assigned, to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, and ordinances. Advise and serve as the environmental technical member of the Hazardous Materials Response Team. Evaluate contracts to ensure contractor performance are within regulations and contractual compliance. Recommend appropriate action to correct deficiencies in compliance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires an extensive background check to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires temporary duty travel from the duty station up to 5 percent of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain any installation and/or Department of Defense (DOD) license required to Operate light motor vehicles to and from work sites.

Experience assisting in an environmental program for the development, analysis and management of environmental information/data. Experience implementing environmental regulatory laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Environmental Science, Environmental Protection, Environmental Management, etc. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
