This position is located at MED VAMC a complex level 1A facility. The incumbent functions as a Supervisor in the Preventive Maintenance (PM) section within the Facilities Management Service Line. Through subordinates, the incumbent is responsible for the overall operations of PM, and repairs of building service equipment. The incumbent is responsible for the operation of the chilled water system and all related equipment.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
Prepare and process the required paperwork to execute and accomplish work associated with his/her shop.
Provide leadership and instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines that must be met within the trades supervised which include Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, A/C Equipment Operators, and Electronic Industrial Controls.
Evaluate the plans, layout, assigning, and coordination of work for the team on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Determine scheduled project work or longer-term plans.
Promote and administer a variety of management programs for the units supervised such as safety, cost reduction, incentive awards, beneficial suggestion, and quality assurance with policies and procedures established by medical center management and Facilities Management Service Line.
Provide assistance to the Facilities Management Service Line Executive, the Deputy Facilities Service Line Executive, and the Maintenance/Operations Chief of the service.
Responsible for the efficient and economical use of all resources required for the proper functioning of the PM shops.
Perform safety inspections and quality assurance checks of all equipment and functions under his/her supervision and records the results of the inspections.
Issue work orders to other shops on which cannot be handled by the section.
Prepare and/or review the reports required of the section and submits them to the Facilities Management Service Line office.
Make scheduled safety inspections of the shop.
Eliminate any safety hazards found on the spot or reports those which cannot be corrected immediately to the supervisor with corrective recommendations.
Check all request for materials from shop personnel for correctness of nomenclature, estimated prices and need, to prevent overstocking.
Prepare requests and specifications of equipment to be replaced.
Predict short term utility fluctuations and anticipates utility operations accordingly.
Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 7:30am - 4:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the Agency.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be physically and mentally alert at all times. The position requires lifting, carrying, pulling/pushing and steading adjustments or repairs and may require kneeling, bending, squatting, reaching over, under, and into equipment while cramped or in awkward positions. He/she works off ladders, scaffolds and platforms and must be able to carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Incumbent shall wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as but not limited to: earplugs, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, safety shoes and standard respirator, etc., when required.
