About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and start work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by
individual members of the group led)
Set up, serve and break down salad bar and servery, including condiments, silverware, trays, glassware, disposable containers and plasticware.
Clean up spills in the servery, and sanitize dishroom and pot and pan areas.
Ensure that all recipes, supplies, utensils, and food items are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional
on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
Manually or using mechanical equipment, wash heavy pots and pans, dishes, trays, and serviceware from the kitchen, dining room, catering
functions and patient care units.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required
to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying
work schedules.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker Leader without more than normal supervision. Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker Leader without more than normal supervision. Ability to demonstrate proper food service work methods and assist others in training. Ability to properly set up and maintain cafeteria and servery areas, and replenish and maintain food, silverware, trays, and glassware. Ability to maintain cleanliness by sanitizing the kitchen and servery areas, and properly disposing of waste. Can work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work involves moderate physical effort. Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that require the employee to continuously stand, walk, stoop, bend, push, pull, and reach. Must frequently lift and carry supplies, materials, or equipment weighing up to 45 pounds with or without assistance.
Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in kitchen and dining areas. Areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy. Incumbent is subject to injuries from equipment used and slippery floors; exposed to dirt, grease, and water in cleaning tasks. Incumbent is subject to extremes in temperature of hot kitchens and walk-in refrigerators. Shift work may be required by the position.
