About the Position: This position is located in the Nutrition Care Department at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Duties

Establish daily work assignments to ensure all areas are covered. Advise employees on how to improve performance. Adhere to work priorities established by higher level supervisors Ensure that equipment is maintained and properly used. Provide on-the-job training for subordinates as needed. Observe work in progress to resolve any problems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties within a hospital food service department. I can plan and schedule the use of workers, equipment and facilities daily or as needed; adhere to work priorities determined by higher level supervisors; and track work. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentDexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that require the employee to continuously stand, walk, stoop, bend, push, pull, and reach. Must frequently lift and carry supplies, materials, or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed in well-lighted areas that are often hot, humid, and noisy. Work is performed in close quarters and employee is exposed to injury from falling on wet floors or food spillage. Employee is subject to injuries from equipment, dishes, pots and pans and serviceware to include burns, bruises, and cuts. Employee is also subject to dirt, grease, and chemicals used for cleaning.
