This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

The Physician Assistant (Facility Lead) is a senior member of the PA staff who has extensive clinical experience, a thorough understanding of the integrated processes of patient care and possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities to interact effectively across interdisciplinary teams, including medical, nursing and administrative. The Physician Assistant (Facility Lead) is responsible for carrying out duties as assigned by the Medical Center Director and/or the Chief of Staff which may include, but are not limited to: ADMINISTRATIVE Providing subject matter knowledge and expertise on issues pertaining to the employment, credentialing, clinical practice, and appropriate utilization of PAs to senior management and staff. Represent the PA staff at medical staff and committee meetings as assigned by the Chief of Staff to include, but not limited to: Voting member of Executive Committee of the Medical Staff Peer Review Executive Leadership board/Clinical Advisory Group Collaborate with the SSBU or designee and PA Program office to enhance PA recruitment and retention efforts. Provide clinical and occupational orientation to new PA appointments. Serve as a PA mentor and POC for facility PAs. Serve as a resource to services to Facilitate OPPE/FPPE completion. Identify PA educational needs and facilitate training if necessary. Collaborate with VISN Lead PA or PA Committee in collection of metrics to monitor PA utilization and quality outcomes. Ensure facility PA's SOPs are compliant with policy Provide review and policy oversight of PA functional statements. Implement and communicate national PA policy to facility PAs and leadership. Interpretation of State Licensing Board requirements and communicate requirements to facility PAs and leadership. Interpretation of DEA and State Controlled Substance Act requirements and communicate requirements to facility PAs and leadership. Attending and participating in staff and committee meetings as assigned by the Chief of Staff including Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, probationary review board (PRB), and summary review board (SRB). CLINICAL The PA Lead may be assigned patient care responsibilities in addition to PA Lead duties. Clinical duties are determined by the PA's approved Scope of Practice. For an overview of what is generally included, please refer to the available PA Functional Statement which corresponds to the PA's current clinical assignment (i.e. Cardiology, Radiology, etc.). Qualifications

Basic Requirements English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education. Graduate of a training program which is accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education of PA (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations. Additionally, candidates must meet one of the following : Master's degree in any discipline or Bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant. Licensure. PAs must possess an active, current, full, and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Certification. Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE). Preferred Experience: Leadership Experience Preferred Grade Determinations: PA (Facility Lead). Facility lead PAs have a thorough understanding of the various functions involved in the care of patients, and the ability to interact effectively with different medical and surgical specialists, health care team members, and administrative staff. Facility lead PAs have the knowledge and expertise pertaining to PA employment, credentialing, clinical practice, and appropriate utilizations of PAs. A lead PA can monitor patient care operations, polices, and work performance of fellow PAs. Experience. PA facility leads require five years of experience, which includes progressively responsible leadership assignments, such as serving on any local committees, workgroups, or taskforces. The PA may exhibit knowledge of PA VHA employment and utilization of PAs through demonstrative actions as a facility point of contact (POC) for PA issues, policies, and directives. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. PAs at this level are not required to meet each individual KSA listed below to qualify, but should be able to demonstrate, develop, or acquire those not met upon appointment for PA-IV: a. Ability to provide clinically and occupationally focused orientation to new PA appointees and mentoring other PA staff members. b. Knowledge of the FPPE and OPPE processes to evaluate and assess patient care services provided by PA staff. c. Knowledge of the educational needs of PAs. d. Ability to provide leadership and clinical oversight of PAs at the facility. e. Ability to exercise independent judgment, perform tasks involving special technical, supervisory, or administrative lines. f. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of professional clinical staff.
