The primary purpose of this position is to lead a minimum of three Housekeeping Aids in performing janitorial and custodial work in the Environmental Management Service of the Amarillo VA Health Care System, in Amarillo Texas.
Duties
The major duties assigned to this position include a full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area within the medical center, following general instructions on the work to be done. The incumbent will use various preparations to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall, and ceiling surfaces. The incumbent is required to remove stains from a variety of surfaces, using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Occasionally the incumbent will work on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, replace venetian blinds, wash walls, etc. The incumbent is required to run powered cleaning equipment, clean and oil it, and change brushes and accessories.
Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts night/weekends/holidays to include 7:00am-3:30pm; 3:30pm-midnight; 11pm-7:30am

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to climb ladders, walk constantly and perform light to moderate bending and stooping. During normal day-to-day operations, individual will be required to perform simple grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reaching above shoulder height. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicles, powered equipment, and push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts to and from loading docks to various locations within the Medical Center.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed inside where there is ample light, heat and/or ventilation. Temperatures vary from hot in summer to cold in the winter when traveling between Buildings Original-1, Services-4, OIT-7, Logistics/Fiscal-8, HR-9, C.Care-10, Main-28, CLC-29, Med Arts-33, Eng-34, Lodge-35, EMS storage-36, Center for T&R-44, Fiscal/HBPC-45, Specialty-46, and Primary Care- 48, with occasional work performed in other Engineering administrative spaces.
Incumbent intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals and solvents, fumes, dust and noise. May perform some duties of position on patient wards, within storage areas on facility grounds, or within sub-basement locations. Individual is exposed to possible contagions from
the handling of patient personal clothing/effects and in performance of sanitation, waste management, or textile procedures. Is subject to cuts, scrapes, bumps, bruises, slips, falls, and other injuries in the performance of required duties. Also, exposed to disagreeable odors in the accomplishment of duties.
