Duties
Provides legal support and assistance in furtherance of the Office's responsibilities under the Inspector General Act of 1978 (PL 95-452), which duties include but are not limited to the conduct of legal research; the review and evaluation of existing and proposed legislation, rules and regulations, programs and procedures; and the development of recommendations to assist Agency management in reducing program susceptibility to fraud, abuse, waste, and mismanagement.
Assists in the coordination and preparation of drafts of proposed comments or revisions for transmittal by the SBA Inspector General to the Office of General Counsel, other SBA offices, or the Office of Management and Budget, as appropriate.
Provides research and other assistance in support of legislation development and review functions and other activities of the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness, as well as prevent and detect fraud and abuse in government programs and operations.
Prepares affidavits, briefs, motion papers, and other legal documents as necessary in support of judicial or administrative proceedings initiated by or against the Office of Inspector General or employees thereof in connection with the performance of the employees' official duties.
Conducts legal reviews of proposed responses to Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act, and other requests from any resource for disclosure of sensitive audit and investigative records to ensure compliance with applicable Federal laws and regulations.
Conducts legal research into legal issues arising out of audits and investigations and reports on such research for consideration in the preparation of our incorporation in reports of audit and investigative findings and recommendations for corrective action forwarded to the Agency personnel.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- You must successfully complete a background investigation. Candidates who do not complete the required background investigation paperwork by the pre-determined due date, will be disqualified.
- You may be required to serve on a one-year trial period.
- You must possess a J.D., LL.B., and/or LL.M professional law degree.
- You must be an active member of the bar in good standing.
- You must submit a writing sample with your application. Failure to submit a writing sample WILL render you ineligible for consideration.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree and be an active member of a State bar, the bar of the District of Columbia, or the bar of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or other possession of the United States.

Education
You must meet the minimum basic educational requirements for Attorney Advisor positions. Education requirements include: a professional law degree J.D., LL.B., and/or LL.M.
