This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, who is responsible for planning, and coordination of Motor Vehicle/Equipment operation and maintenance.

Duties
Major duties:
Evaluates various transportation data and makes recommendations to supervisor.
Occasional heavy equipment operation may be required to fulfill mission needs.
Serves as timekeeper for the Transportation, Roads and Grounds Section.
Checks work while in progress, ensures proper delegation of duties to motor vehicle operators and grounds workers. When appropriate, refers complaints to supervisor.
Acts as MVO-Lead in planning the acquisition, modification & repair of a vehicle fleet & the coordination of motor vehicle/equipment operation & maintenance.
Completes daily dispatch duties, correspondence and required reports; fuel usage, maintenance.
Conducts in-house training sessions for employees to orient them to the operational requirements of government vehicles; safety regulations and policies, safe work methods/practices and proper utilization of safety equipment.
Answers questions concerning policies, procedures and management goals relating to the work of the team and changes thereto; informs supervisor of employees' participation, suggestions and reactions.
Occasional patients' trips may be required to fulfill mission needs.
Skill in operating vehicles that have a gross vehicle of more than 32,000 pounds.
Coordinates projects and other work activities based on the instructions received from the supervisor.
Directs on the-job-training of employees, broadening the knowledge of employees through training and cross training.
Assists the supervisor in preparation of estimates and ordering of materials for construction, maintenance, repair, or improvements to systems and structures throughout the Medical Center.
Assists supervisor in establishing priorities and deadlines based on general work schedules, methods and code requirements.
Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Subject to shift changes, weekends, and holiday work as needed.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Physical effort is moderate. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, lifting, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier with assistance. Must be able to drive for a minimum of a four hour period and stay mentally alert. The incumbent will need to pass a VA physical and adhere to all VA and DOT drug and alcohol testing and guidelines.
