About the Position: This Public Affairs position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District, Public Affairs Office with a duty station location of Fort Worth, TX.

Duties

Develop and write information materials designed to reach broad audiences with diverse needs and levels of understanding. Conduct in-person, phone, and/or video interviews as needed to gather information in support of products. Plan, prepare, and execute basic and complex engagements with news media organizations, elected officials, stakeholders, and other audiences. Establish and develop effective relationships with media representatives, while seeking opportunities to advance positive stories about the district and its staff. Conduct research and assessment of information environment on subjects to include monitoring of traditional and social media reports and posts. Prepare plans for crisis communication and no-notice events and disasters. Provide advice and technical guidance to district planners, project managers, and other staff on modes of interaction with various publics. Train senior leaders on the value of public affairs function in relation to mission execution.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be required to spend up to 25% of their time TDY.
  • Must obtain and maintain a state issued driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Must have a Public Affairs Qualification Course (PAQC) or Public Affairs Communication Strategy Qualification (PACS-Q) Certification. (Certificates must be uploaded at the time of application)
  • Must have an OPSEC Level II Certification. (Certificates must be uploaded at the time of application)

Conducting full range of communication methods, and techniques including print/broadcast media, social media, presentations, and avenues that convey information to prepare public affairs products for internal and external audiences.; 2. Preparing Public Affair products by developing written materials and facilitating engagements with media outlets, elected officials, stakeholder groups and other audiences.; AND 3. Utilizing digital camera and creative software to capture, adjust, and produce imagery and content for public information products. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
