This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Office of Investment and Innovation in Washington, DC. The Ecosystem Development Specialist is responsible for building and maintaining a portfolio of positive relationships with U.S. Innovation Ecosystem Stakeholders including entrepreneur support organizations and federal lab to market leaders across regions and/or industry and technology areas of national priority.
Duties
This position is located in the Office of Investment and Innovation (OII). OII promotes small business and startup investment and innovation by providing critical access to capital, networks, and assistance necessary for businesses to incubate, expand and sustain. OII partners with Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs), Innovation Accelerator Networks, Universities, and the SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research)/STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer Program) community.
Communicates with Innovation Ecosystems Stakeholders to understands their needs and issues and identifies potential opportunities to collaborate, facilitate connections, and develop strategic initiatives to strengthen, increase and expand connections and access to resources and capital.
Develops and implements plans, procedures, and standards to reach goals and objectives, and effectively strengthen and improve OII investment and innovation ecosystem programs aimed at increasing awareness, training, and support for entrepreneur support organizations.
Provides advice and guidance to senior executive leadership of OII on a wide variety of issues regarding matters affecting the national investment and innovation ecosystem, and complex decisions involving federal, state, and private-sector investment and innovation ecosystem programs.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- You must be a current SBA career or career-conditional competitive service employee.
- You must successfully complete a background investigation.
- You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
Qualifications
For the GS-14: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector that includes experience in:
Managing innovation or investment programs that support small businesses or entrepreneurs; and
Building or collaborating with investment or innovation networks and partners from diverse perspectives, including the federal or private sector, to support small businesses or entrepreneurs.
