About the Position: The Supervisory Security Guard assigns work in terms of organizational objectives and special assignments, set priorities, and deadlines. The incumbent independently plans and assigns work through subordinate supervisors. You are expected to be available to assist with problems that are controversial or involve policy.

Duties

Plans and coordinates the activities of a guard shift, through Lead Security Guards, to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards, enforcement of Federal, state, and local laws. Ensure protection of government and personal property, control of movement of personnel and vehicles through the installation. Checks work progress and makes day-to-day adjustments based on work priorities. Receives and reviews daily reports from subordinate work leaders and ensures the correction of reported irregularities. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and requirements of the work, and the capabilities of employees. Sets employee standards for performance and prepares performance evaluations base on employee compliance Conducts job interviews, recommends promotions, reassignments, and performance awards, and imposes/recommends appropriate disciplinary actions. Provides administrative guidance in the form of Standard Operating Procedures, the physical security plan, memorandums, and oral instructions. Overseeing guard force performing access control and patrol duties. Make changes of work or assignment of functions to positions to improve guard workflow. Conduct traffic stops at the access control point to complete safety and security checks. Randomly inspect vehicles to detect intruders, contraband, drugs, weapons, or unauthorized removal of Federal property. Make changes of work or assignment of functions to positions to improve guard workflow. Determine when there has been a violation of law or regulation. Identify the critical processes and steps in reporting procedures to comply with established regulations. Neutralize security breaches detected while conducting physical security patrols.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
  • Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
  • Requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
  • Must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must be able to successfully pass training or certification requirements for first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Completion of 1-year Supervisory Probationary Period must be served unless previously completed.
  • One-year probationary period may be required.
  • Required to sign a Statement of Understanding if you are selected for this position.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
