About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Security Guard GS 0085-8 at the Directorate of Emergency Services at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Duties

Serve as a Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision of the activities of a guard force shift consisting of subordinate Security Guards at the GS-06 level and Lead Security Guards at the GS-07 level. Plan and coordinate the activities of a guard force shift, to ensure the maintenance of physical security standards; enforcement of federal state, and local laws and official orders. Make decisions according to the nature of perceived threat. May be required to detain violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turn them over to Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest. Responsible for operating various types of radios or other electronic devices to pass and receive clear-cut information. Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program (IRP) apply. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams is prescribed in AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, over garments, and other protective equipment, and must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of any protective equipment.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability. Position requires for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
