This position is located at the American Lake Division of the Facilities Management Service Line, Maintenance and Operations Section at the Puget Sound Health Care System.
Duties
The incumbent repairs, maintains, installs and performs preventive maintenance on the following types of
equipment:
Air conditioning refrigeration units, cooling towers, air compressors, valves, pumps, pneumatic and electric controls, motorized dampers, water treatment equipment, gauges, fans, and other related equipment.
Equipment including pumps, air compressors, gauges, heat recovery wheels, heat exchangers, pressure reducing stations, air handlers, fans, motorized dampers, traps, valves, heating and cooling coils, pneumatic and electric controls, and sensing units, water treatment equipment and other related equipment.
Building service equipment including window air conditioning units, small pad mounted condensers, fan coil units, thermostats, dietetics walk-in freezers and refrigerators, morgue refrigerators, ice machines, nourishment stations, convectors, fans and other miscellaneous HVAC equipment.
Personal property such as small refrigerators, laboratory refrigerators, canteen refrigeration equipment, medication refrigerators, humidifiers and other self-contained cooling equipment.
Incumbent must possess comprehensive knowledge of a variety of control systems, i.g. Barber Coleman, Johnson Controls, Robert Shaw, Honeywell, Landis Gere Powers, Mitsubishi, Trane, York, and etc. - Incumbent must also be familiar with computerized energy management systems, e.g. Tritium, Continuium, Alerton, and Honeywell (Delta).
He/she recognizes the cause of failures and/or operational problems on a large variety of equipment and systems that provide for a large variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidification, dehumidification, and air cleaning, filtering and circulating. Many of the repairs are of a very complex nature involving work in the electrical, plumbing, steam fitting, sheet metal, refrigeration and air conditioning trades. The units and systems are located throughout all of the medical center buildings and many areas such as the laboratory, operating room, and intensive care unit have stringent environmental requirements such as in air circulation rates, temperature and humidity control, and air purity being maintained.
The incumbent performs a variety of repairs ranging from replacing entire assemblies to simple adjustments or changing filters. He/she must in most cases, find the cause of a problem using a large variety of diagnostic or testing equipment and remedy the situation quickly to avoid disruption of patient care. He/she may rebuild units, such as pumps, compressors, heating/cooling coils, valves, and replacing parts such as bearings, seals, gaskets, piston rings and couplings. He/she performs duties such as balancing duct systems and adjusting pressure sensors and controls.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: He/she must occasionally lift and carry items up to 50 pounds in weight and operate electric and
pneumatic tools, set up and operate hoists, pulleys and other items to accomplish the work. He/she will
climb, crawl, stoop, bend, and stretch, while performing tasks associated with this position.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, the ability to do the work of a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic at the WG-10 level, without more than normal supervision (SCREEN-OUT). Experience includes but is not limited to: repairing, installing, and preventive maintenance on air conditioning refrigeration units, cooling towers, air compressors, valves, pumps, pneumatic and electric controls, motorized dampers, water treatment equipment, gauges, fans, and other related equipment. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
