Duties
Maintain, repair and overhaul refrigeration units.
Use Building Automation System (BAS) to optimize and troubleshoot Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Utilizes proprietary software to configure, calibrate and commission HVAC equipment.
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment in large air conditioning units.
Replaces or repairs component parts of compressors clean solenoids and metering devices and checks fan motors.
Use HVAC –PRO to calibrate air flow and programs required offsets and gains in order to correct flow readings.
Operate government motor vehicles weighing up to 1 ton plus high lifts in performance of work, occasionally operates forklifts up to 6,000 pounds.
Requirements

- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Skill in recognizing the causes of faulty equipment and making repairs on a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, ice cream cabinets, deep freezers, evaporative coolers, attic and evaporative fans, and other equipment of comparable complexity. Ability to apply knowledge of the principles and theories of the refrigeration cycle, temperature measurement, the properties of several refrigerants, and the knowledge of the construction and operation of a variety of domestic units and systems. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

This position requires a current EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, Type II.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stoops, stretches, bends, kneel for long periods of time and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier. Weight handling equipment is available when handling large units. Ladders scaffolds and platforms may be used when working on large systems or roofs.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in all weather and in mechanical rooms having extreme temperatures. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders and scaffolds. Exposed to possibility injury from electrical current. Exposed to cleaning chemicals and asbestos. Required wearing respirator and be fit tested.
