This position is located within Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Area, Stuttgart, Arkansas.
In this position, you will perform a variety of tasks necessary for the maintenance and repair of buildings and ponds greenhouses, and related structures, fixtures and utilities.
Duties
Troubleshoot the testing, relays and coils and checks power at the location.
May assist in small motor repair and/or aerator maintenance and repair.
Assist in wiring buildings, generator sets, and installing pumps, starters and relays for equipment.
Use shovels, rakes, and other hand tools.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 08/15/2024.
Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. Physical Effort
Duties require lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; lifting equipment such as a pallet jack and hand trucks are available for heavier objects. The work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and work on ladders, and scaffolding. Work may be performed in uncomfortable and tiring positions.
Working Conditions
Frequently works indoors and is required to work outdoors in prevailing weather. Noise level can be high almost to the extreme of requiring ear plugs. Some work situations may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. Occasionally works in contaminated areas and may be exposed to biological hazards when servicing sewer lift stations; may be subjected to gases, steam burns, electrical shock, bruises, cuts, and scrapes; the employee is expected to wear goggles, a respirator and gloves as required.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
