The NIH Office of Communications & Public Liaison (OCPL) within the NIH Office of the Director is NIH's central resource for reporters seeking information, interviews, and media assets about NIH and its 27 Institutes and Centers. Our office assists reporters in obtaining interviews with the NIH Director and NIH OD leadership, and information about the NIH budget, grants, trans-NIH initiatives, research programs within the NIH Office of the Director.
Duties
Perform analysis on issues regarding information to be disseminated to the public.
Translate technical and scientific material into language that is more easily understood by target audience.
Perform work as a production manager for a nationwide communication project.
Identify information gaps/needs and communication opportunities in support of nationwide publication projects.
Develop written information on the organization’s mission, programs and research findings for publication.
Design materials to be published using graphics software.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
- Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Writing and editing products that articulate, interpret, and explain a variety of subjects to internal, local, and national; analyzing and editing both draft and final versions of a variety of written products prepared by the staff, management, and external to the immediate office; assisting authors or independently redrafting and modifying to improve the written material as to consistency, clarity, and succinctness; overseeing the design of publications in both print and digital formats and evaluating and adapting publishing procedures to changing technology.
