This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Perform various duties to accomplish preventive maintenance, repair, and upkeep of building and grounds as assigned. Perform cleaning tasks such as sweeping, dusting, mopping, and floor buffing when custodial workers are not available. Perform various types of work to include electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and lighting. Ability to read basic blueprints and specifications to correctly identify custodial and preventative maintenance requirements and accurate location of equipment. Coordinate maintenance work as required. Utilize safe operating procedures on a variety of powered tools and equipment such as drills, saws, and electric and battery powered custodial equipment.

  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully pass a pre-employment physical as the position requires heavy lifting in excess of 45 pounds with assistance.

  • Employee must possess OR be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Employee will be required to obtain and maintain any installation and/or Department of Defense (DoD) license required for the vehicle type being operated.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Perform common preventive maintenance duties as appropriate. Provide routine preventive maintenance work to include electrical, carpentry, painting, and plumbing repairs; repair doors, walls and windows; repair bathroom fixtures; prep surfaces for painting; repair electrical devices such as switches, outlets, plates; use a variety of hand and power tools safely and correctly; and work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The work requires extensive walking, standing, bending and stooping. Occasionally climbs ladders or uses lift devices to perform high cleaning and maintenance operations. Frequently lifts heavy objects such as boxes of cleaning supplies, buckets of liquids and panels or parts removed from equipment for servicing or maintenance. Lifts items weighing in excess of 45 pounds with assistance. Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to hazards of moving parts and sharp blades when working with power tools and exposed belts when performing maintenance on equipment. Exposure to harsh cleaning solutions and chemicals occurs daily. Wear of protective clothing and equipment is required. Work performed from high ladders and platforms requires the use of safety straps.
