About the Position: Serves as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC) Facilities Maintenance Shop exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. Responsible for the overall productivity, economy, and efficiency of maintenance operations within the organization.
Duties
Serve as Supervisor in charge of the Facilities Management Division for HVAC shop, Electrical shop, Plumbing shop.
Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates based on service orders.
Assign, direct, and review the work of subordinates while evaluating their work performance.
Troubleshoot, adjust, service, and repair mechanical and electrical systems and equipment on commercial industrial heating units, large industrial air conditioning systems and large industrial refrigeration units and freezers.
Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.
Work with employees and customers to identify quality indicators and ensure that work meets quality standards.
Ability to drives various vehicles, i.e., utility truck or similar vehicle, to and from the work site to transport self, supplies, and other employees throughout the installation and on public roads.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) may be required for this position.
- Position is weather essential. Employee may be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather.
- The employee must pass physical examinations as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration guides.
- The employee must possess and maintain a Universal (types I, II and III) refrigerant handling certification as required by 40 CFR Part 82, subpart F.
- The employee must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DOD requirements for the type vehicle being operated.
- Employee may be required to lift up to 45 pounds without assistance. Assistance is required when lifting over 45 pounds.
- This position is subject to evening, weekend and or holiday work schedules.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties with the preventative maintenance and servicing of equipment, buildings and facilities. Performing maintenance and servicing on smaller air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment; removing, replacing and making repairs to electrical fixtures and controls, and measuring, cutting, constructing, and repairing wood products. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee works in shops and at job sites. Strenuous physical exertion is often required. Employee may lift and move materials up to 45 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time. Employee may work from ladders, scaffolding, and roofs performing the duties of this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels, sawdust, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment when performing work in the shop area. Work at job sites exposes employee to adverse weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises and contusions, electrical shock, cuts, and burns. May be required to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics, which may be dusty and dirty. Protective devices such as, but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and safety shoes may be required. Protective equipment and clothing may be hot and uncomfortable and may be worn for long periods of time.
